Philosophy

I believe through love, encouragement and positive re-enforcment, the student receives inspiration to further develop a passion for music.

Also communication with parents plays a major role in the development of the students’ piano skills. Home practice is essential and parents need to help their children remain focused and disciplined at home. It is also important that I explain to the parents how to help their children practice, such as paying more attention on trouble areas, before moving on. Normally they should spend 60% of their time learning a new piece, and 30% of their time reviewing old ones. By playing these familiar old pieces, they feel good about their playing and not frustrated by their difficulties with the new piece. The remaining 10% should be allocated to hand techniques. I also give them theory homework between lessons. It is also important they play in front of an audience through recitals.

Piano is not just about learning music, but it’s also a means to help children develop focus, patience, and discipline which enables them to channel their energy into positives areas in life.
